Fly fishing as the DOMINANT fishing technique
Fly fishing is the only permitted fishing method, using fly lines and leaders with a minimum thickness of 0.10 mm, without any additional weights.
Under the "Catch and Release" permit, the use of indicators is restricted exclusively to natural or synthetic wool (wool/yarn indicators) and soft, moldable putty indicators.
Only one fly, nymph, or streamer tied to a single barbless hook may be used. In the Koritnica and Kneža rivers, fishing is allowed only with a dry fly.
In all rivers, the use of barbless hooks is mandatory.
The use of a tenkara rod up to a maximum length of 13′ is allowed.
In Zone I – Soča Lake (the reservoir: from the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers to the confluence of the Idrijca and Bača rivers, and up to the dam in Podsel), fishing from a boat is also allowed.
In the Soča Lake (J) zone, fishing from a boat is allowed, and an electric motor may be used. However, trolling with the electric motor is not permitted.

Reporting the catch of a larger marble trout
The catch of a marble trout longer than 70 cm must be reported at the headquarters of the Tolmin Fishing Club.
End of the season on the Trebuščica River
Fishing on the Trebuščica River ends on October 20.
Fishing season on the lake
The Soča Lake district spans the area from the confluence with the Tolminka to the confluence of the Idrijca and Bača rivers, and down to the Podselo dam. The fishing season runs from March 1st to November 30th.
CAUTION: Due to the spawning of grayling and Marble trout, fishing is prohibited in the sections from the Tolminka-Soča confluence to Vodivček Bay (below the RDT hatchery) and from the Postaja bridge to the confluence of the Idrijca and Bača rivers between March 1st and March 27th, and between November 2nd and November 30th.
Fish catch rules
With a District 1 fishing permit, you are allowed to take three (3) rainbow trout. You may keep only one rainbow trout measuring 50 cm or more per fishing day. Additionally, you may take up to five (5) cyprinids, with a total maximum limit of five (5) fish. Members are restricted to a seasonal limit of only one Marble trout and only one hybrid trout.
In the Catch & Release district, no fish may be kept. If you are fishing in District 1 with a Catch & Release permit, the removal of fish is likewise prohibited.
The coarse fishing permit allows for the take of five (5) cyprinids.
Fishing permit
The fishing permit is valid only for the person named on the permit and for the specified date. Your child, up to and including the age of fifteen (15), may fish together with you under the same permit.
Members of the RZS (Fishing Association of Slovenia) receive a 20% discount on the purchase of Catch & Release fishing permits.
