Barbel

The body of the barbel is long, slightly laterally compressed, and covered with small scales, ending in a pointed head. It lives in shoals. It inhabits the Soča from Kamno downstream, the Nadiža, and is abundant in the Idrijca and in the Soča reservoir near Most na Soči.
It feeds on bottom food and aquatic plants. It spawns in May and June. It can reach a length of up to 70 cm and a weight of up to 4 kg.
