Grayling

The grayling inhabits the Soča from the gorges in Soča village downstream, the Koritnica from Kluže downstream, the lower section of the Učja, the Nadiža, the lower section of the Bela, the Tolminka from the dam in Tolmin, the Idrijca, the Trebuščica from the confluence with the Jelenk stream, the Bača from Koritnica downstream, and can occasionally be found in the Kneža. It is rarely found in the tributaries of these rivers.
The grayling feeds on bottom food and aquatic insects, and sometimes also on fish larvae. It spawns from mid-March to early May. In our waters, grayling can reach up to 60 centimeters in length and up to 2 kilograms in weight.
Since the 2019 season, the harvest/removal of grayling has not been allowed, in accordance with the conservation plan for the preservation of the Adriatic grayling.
