Hybrids

The external appearance of hybrids is very diverse and varied. Hybrids can closely resemble marble trout, show many intermediate forms with characteristics of both species, or differ only slightly from brown trout.
Hybrids

Distinguishing between hybrids and both subspecies, especially marble trout, is challenging when the hybrids closely resemble them. It requires careful examination of the trout, particularly the gill cover, where differences are usually most easily observed. Hybrids can be found wherever marble trout and brown trout are both present.

Like other trout, hybrids feed on bottom organisms and aquatic insects, while larger individuals are piscivorous.

They spawn from the end of October to the end of January. Hybrids can grow up to 1 meter in length and weigh up to 10 kilograms, but they do not reach the exceptional sizes of marble trout.
