Other fish and crayfish

In addition to the mentioned fish species that are also of interest for sport fishing, our rivers are home to the following smaller fish species and crayfish, which are not fished but are equally important for the river ecosystem:

Barbel – Barbus meridionalis caninus;
Italian spirlin – Leuciscus souffia muticellus;
Alburnus (bleak) – Alburnus a. alborella;
European minnow – Phoxinus phoxinus phoxinus;
Bullhead – Cottus gobio.

Less commonly, we can also find the following fish species:

Tench – Tinca tinca
Rudd – Scardinius erythrophthalmus erythrophthalmus
Italian roach – Rutilus rubilio aula

We should also mention the crayfish species found in our district. In the Soča and its tributaries, we find the Italian crayfish – Austropotamobius italicus or Austropotamobius pallipes fulcisianus, as well as the stone crayfish – Austropotamobius torrentium, which is also present in the Idrijca and Bača rivers with their tributaries.
